Lighthouse Lange Nelle Oostende

The Lange Nelle lighthouse stands on the east side of the harbour in Ostend. The white tower with two blue waves is about 58 metres tall and has guided ships since 1949.
What can you expect at the Lange Nelle?
- History: A light has shone here since 1771. Earlier towers were destroyed in both world wars. The current tower was built between 1947 and 1949, the fourth lighthouse in the city's history.
- Building: The concrete tower is octagonal at the base and round above, with a double gallery and a lantern. The blue waves were added in 1994 after concrete repairs.
- The light: The light sits about 65 metres above the sea and can be seen up to around 50 kilometres away. The nickname means Tall Nellie.
